After his defeat, Doctor Octopus tracked down his admirer Carolyn Trainer, who was develping a virtual reality interface.
The original intent was to take the danger out of battling Spider-Man by creating a physical duplicate. They encoded Octavius's thoughts, memories, and genius into a series of highly sophisticated computer files. The organized program files were dubbed the "Master Programmer" after his former alias.
The expirementation on Angelina Brancale was in pursuit of forming the body that went along with the data program, but before one could be made for Octavius, he was killed by Kaine.
